From Carabinieri Officer to Author: When Reality Becomes a Story

What my job as a Carabiniere taught me

Many readers are surprised when they discover that, alongside my work as an author, I serve as a Carabinieri officer.

At first glance, these two worlds seem completely different.

One is built on discipline, responsibility, service, and commitment to the public.

The other is driven by creativity, imagination, and storytelling.

Yet, throughout my life, I have come to realize that these two paths are closely connected.

The Carabinieri is one of Italy’s national law enforcement forces, with a long tradition of public service. Serving in this role has given me the opportunity to meet people from every walk of life, observe human behavior in countless situations, and gain a deeper understanding of the choices individuals make.

Over the years, I have witnessed courage and fear, determination and uncertainty, success and failure.

I have learned that behind every decision there is a story.

Behind every action there is a motivation.

Behind every mistake there is often a struggle that remains invisible to most people.

These observations have become one of the most valuable sources of inspiration for my writing.

My books are works of fiction. They do not tell real events, nor do they portray real people.

However, the emotions, conflicts, ambitions, fears, and human dynamics explored in my stories are often inspired by what I have observed throughout my professional and personal journey.

How these experiences become books

When I wrote Noah, I explored themes such as manipulation, digital identity, and the growing influence of technology on human relationships.

In Challenge Accepted, I reflected on the risks that can emerge when the search for recognition and approval becomes an obsession.

In Out of Step, I examined individuality, independence, and the courage required to follow one’s own path rather than conforming to the expectations of others.

Even The Restless Farmer, a lighter and more humorous story, was inspired by the contradictions, habits, and unexpected behaviors that make people fascinating to observe.

Likewise, Me and the AI represents my reflection on the relationship between human beings and artificial intelligence, one of the most significant challenges and opportunities of our time.

From reality to fiction

Being a Carabinieri officer has taught me how to observe.

Being an author allows me to transform those observations into stories.

Both roles share a common foundation: understanding people.

Technology evolves.

Societies change.

New challenges emerge.

Yet human nature remains remarkably consistent.

Fear, hope, ambition, love, doubt, and resilience continue to shape the decisions we make every day.

Those are the elements that inspire my books.

For this reason, I do not see my profession and my passion as separate journeys.

I see them as different expressions of the same purpose: understanding the world through people and sharing those observations through storytelling.

Whether wearing a uniform or sitting in front of a blank page, the mission remains the same: to observe, to understand, and to tell a story worth remembering.
